Community Spotlight – Alex Bui

Meet Alex Bui, a Vietnamese-American voice actor based in Texas! After getting his pharmacy doctorate in 2021, Alex has been juggling his pharmacy career with his love for voice acting. He’s all about learning and growing with peers from around the world, whether it’s through remote work or both online and in-person classes.

You can catch Alex in indie games, animation, audio dramas, and show narration. He’s signed with VOX Talent Agency and is aiming for commercial, anime, and AAA video game projects, big or small. Alex is always excited to learn more and make new friends along the way!

Q: What’s one physical thing you absolutely can’t live without on your career or journey?

My family, friends, and all those who believed in me. I believe I am where I am today because I am decent at what I do and because I have so many family and friends, inside and outside of this industry, that support and believe in me. They are my motivation to do better and better both professionally and personally.

Q: What’s something that happened this year that you’re really proud of?

I’m proud of a lot of things and I’m humbled by the experiences. First thing that comes to mind is getting representation with VOX and just being given the opportunity to read these sides is motivating and encouraging. Additionally, I feel I’ve made stronger connections with some of my peers/friends that I know will last a long time.

Q: What’s one of your major takeaways from participating in THNEA classes?

One major takeaway from participating in THNEA classes is to simply have fun. This is the kind of work that can pay the bills, if you’re lucky, but it can just as easily fill the soul. Getting to bring life to these stories and characters while exploring more about myself and others is a beautiful recipe for art.

Q: If you can give your past self one piece of advice at the start of your journey, what would it be?

Take classes online and in-person often but not so often you burnout! Find your learning style and keep at it, but remember to take breaks and relax every now and then. There will ALWAYS be that one roles you really want. It’s okay if that one gets away.

You can learn more about Alex on his website or IMDB!

Community Spotlight – Hunter McCoy

Hunter McCoy (they/he) is a non-binary actor based in Los Angeles! They were born in Manassas, Virginia, and moved around a bunch as a kid, but for the most part grew up in Cary, North Carolina. Their parents called it that they'd be a performer, having put them in community plays at 4 years old, but Hunter didn't bite right away. As a lifelong gamer, they started high school thinking they were on their way to being a concept artist or a programmer.
