Community Spotlight – Maihan

Meet Maihan, the Community and Events Coordinator at The Halp Network, also known as your friendly neighborhood class moderator. Maihan is an Asian-American voice actor born and raised in Southern California, between the edges of culturally rich Los Angeles and Orange County. Maihan (aka Han!) has the unique experience of organizing classes and building communities for her fellow actors while pursuing a voice acting career. She can be found utilizing her Bachelor’s degree in Entertainment Business and Tourism Management through production work on video games, and managing events and communities professionally. When not playing Final Fantasy XIV, Han is mastering the art of all-you-can-eat, drinking her weight in boba milk teas, and showing off photos of her cats, Lucky “Marshie” Marshmallow and Anthony “Toni” Macaroni.

Q: What’s one physical thing you absolutely can’t live without on your career or journey?

A decent paint set, because having a hobby outside of voice acting is super important to your growth.

Q: What’s something that happened this year that you’re really proud of?

I’m always proud to be a part of projects with my friends.

Q: What’s one of your major takeaways from participating in THNEA classes?

Keep it messy! We’re human and imperfect, so our performances should reflect that.

Q: If you can give your past self one piece of advice at the start of your journey, what would it be?

What everyone says about this all being a marathon and not a race is absolutely true and there are more people rooting for you than you think.

Reconnecting to Art During Stressful Times

I’m sick of news headlines…I feel like our collective day to day we’ve experienced so far this decade has been mainline quest after mainline quest after ...phew, that was a close one, let’s refuel and stock up on new gear—wait why are all the prices so high?!— oh hey look, a new mainline quest…! It’s beyond easy to feel hypervigilant about everything going on in games & entertainment…with rapidly advancing tech, layoffs, the constant analysis of what content gets made and why, the economy, how audiences consume media—you name it. If this sounds like you, you’re not alone! I also often find myself lost in the sauce! (If this doesn’t sound like you, don’t be shy, what is your secret??)

Netting in Networking

Listen, I don’t know about you, but I feel like the definition of “networking” has taken on a new meaning. I mean, what even is the concept of networking? Do I have to hand out business cards like I’m throwing shurikens at new clients? Should we have an elevator pitch ready to recite spelling bee style? At THN, we love being in a position where we get to be in the business, and ALSO foster a thriving, supportive community of various relationships within. The beauty of that is getting to know the people we get to work with as they are. People! Who just…happen to work in the same industry.

COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT – ARIANA

I’m a Cypriot & Greek-American actress born and raised in Los Angeles, CA. Naturally, being a valley girl, I’ve always been curious about the industry! Though I first discovered acting through theatre, I was always an avid lover of video games, animation, and dubbing from a young age, sharing in those passions with my siblings. The moment I learned about voice-acting, the transition to that side of the industry was a no-brainer for me. I received my BFA in Musical Theatre from Emerson College and jumped right into professional voice work after graduating during the COVID-19 pandemic.
